Review the ЫЙ rule

In the previous lesson, you learnt that masculine adjectives that end with ЫЙ change their ending to ОЕ for neuter nouns, АЯ for feminine nouns and ЫЕ for plural nouns.

Something new and something old

The first pair of adjectives for today is но́вый (“new”) and ста́рый (“old”).

  • a shiny brand-new carно́вая маши́наa new car
  • an old vintage carста́рая маши́наan old car
